What is Cat5 Cable?

Cat5 ethernet cable is used in both home and businesses for use in a typical internet network. It’s one of the most common cables used in premise wiring, although it has many other uses as well.

What’s the Difference Between Cat5 & Cat6?

It’s important to note that both the Cat5 & Cat6 cables utilize the same end piece, meaning they plug into the same ports, knows as RJ-45’s. (This is the same port that’s used in most computers, routers, and other common ethernet devices. Nobody in the industry expects this to change anytime soon.) The real difference between the Cat5 & Cat6 cables is in their capabilities, as well as how the type of materials the cable is made out of.

Cat5 Network Specifications

While Cat5 cable can handle up to 10/100 Mbps at a 100MHz bandwidth, however the newer versions of the Cat cables are significantly faster. Cat6 cables offer less crosstalk and higher network speeds, but either will provide a stable internet network.
